Place a metal baking tray in your freezer for about 10 mins before you make so once it is made you can pour your toffee mixture straight onto a cold tray
1/4 cup vanilla caster sugar
2 tablespoons raw sugar
Heavy based pan , medium heat
Place over heat and only lift from handle to swirl the sugar as it dissolves and form a toffee, important to do this throughout whole process so once at the desired color usually ideal at a light amber brown pour on your tray and can place back in freezer, this will let it start to snap into nice shaped shards, if needed a small tap with your finger will break a bit further..
